In cases of azospermia (the absence of spermatozoa in the ejaculate), a testicular biopsy can tell us if there spermatogenesis (sperm production) and if the presence of spermatozoa can be found in the testes. Often if spermatozoa cannot be observed in a semen analysis, spermatozoa can be retrieved in several regions of the testes. The biopsy can be performed prior to IVF treatment as a diagnostic means, with the tissue frozen. Alternatively the day before or on the actual day of oocyte retrieval. If spermatozoa are recovered with TESE then the oocytes are fertilized by the method ICSI. Here, we see a single sperm being chosen from cells from the testes and being used fir ICSI. [More] [Less]

Sperm under a microscope at 400 power. Shows human sperm motility and morphology. You can clearly see the difference between immotile, non-progressive, slowly motile, and rapidly motile sperm. You can also see examples of morphology issues. This video was taken with a standard bright field microscope with an integral digital camera. [More] [Less]

Implantation of the OvumWithin a few hours of fusion of the sperm and the ovum, cell division begins. The number of cells doubles with each successive division until a hollow ball of rapidly dividing cells is produced. Throughout the process the ovum is moving down the Fallopian tube toward the uterus. Five to six days after the fusion, the ovum reaches the uterus and implants itself in the soft wall. The hollow ball of cells now contains up to one hundred cells, arranged as an outer ring and an inner mass. The outer ring grows outward and penetrates the uterine tissue, while the inner mass divides into two separate layers, an inner endoderm and an outer ectoderm. These two layers become separated form the outer ring and by nine days form two cavities with the hollow ball. The ectoderm later spreads around the periphery of the smaller cavity, forming a sac, the amnion, which will surround and protect the developing embryo. The endoderm similarly encloses the larger cavity to form a yolk sac, which will have a nutritive function. [More] [Less]

In addition to the help our skilled nurses can provide when you call our Patient Care Center at 877.334.1610 24-hours a day, seven days a week, we have created some additional resources to help you with your fertility medication injections. For more information, visit Village Fertility Pharmacy www.villagefertilitypharmacy.com This medication education video demonstrates how to administer a Follistim injection. Follistim AQ Cartridge for use with the Follistim Pen. Follistim (follitropin beta) contains human follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) that is manufactured using recombinant DNA technology. Follistim AQ cartridge is a prefilled, premixed recombinant gonadotropin. Packaged in 300 IU (international units), 600 IU and 900 IU cartridges, the Follistim Pen allows the user to dial a specific dose in 25 IU increments from 50 IU to 450 IU per subcutaneous injection. It is indicated for the development of multiple follicles in ovulatory patients participating in an assisted reproductive technology (ART) program. It is also indicated for the induction of ovulation and pregnancy in anovulatory infertile patients in whom the cause of infertility is functional and not due to primary ovarian failure. How It Works: Follistim is administered as a subcutaneous injection. Follistim acts like naturally produced FSH by stimulating a follicle (egg) to develop and mature in the ovary. Follistim is also used to stimulate the development of multiple eggs for assisted reproductive technologies. Storage: Follistim AQ Cartridge 300IU, 600IU, 900IU Store refrigerated until the expiration date OR at room temperature (77°F) for 3 months or until expiration date, whichever occurs first. Once the Cartridge has been pierced by a needle the Cartridge can be stored for a maximum of 28 days refrigerated or at room temperature (36-77°F). Protect from light. Do not freeze. Potential Side Effects: Side effects that may occur include: abdominal pain/discomfort, ovarian cysts, dizziness, flu-like symptoms including fever, chills, muscle aches, joint pains, nausea, headache, malaise, breast tenderness, dry skin, body rash, hives. Treatment with Follistim may increase the likelihood of multiple births. The risk of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS) should be discussed with your physician prior to treatment. Early warning signs include severe pelvic pain, nausea, vomiting and weight gain. If you experience an allergic reaction: difficulty breathing; closing of the throat; swelling of the lips, tongue or face; or hives; seek emergency medical attention immediately. And if at any time you experience: pain, warmth, redness, numbness, or tingling in an arm or leg; confusion, severe dizziness or severe headache, seek medical attention immediately. PLEASE NOTE: If these or any other side effects occur, contact your physician. [More] [Less]

A rare view into fertilization, embryo development, and laboratory procedures performed during an IVF cycle. Take an exclusive look inside one of the most advanced, state-of-the-art in vitro fertilization (IVF) laboratories to see how RMA of New York performs IVF and other advanced reproductive technologies using strict identification standards. Medical and laboratory video footage documents egg retrieval, insemination, embryo development from cleavage stage (day 2-3) to blastocyst stage (day 5-6), intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), assisted hatching, embryo transfer and embryo cryopreservation.Reproductive Medicine Associates of New Yorkwww.rmany.com635 Madison Avenue, 10th floorNew York, New York 10022Telephone: (212) 756-5777Facsimile: (212) 756-577015 North Broadway, Garden Level - Suite GWhite Plains, New York 10601Telephone: (914) 997-6200 Facsimile: (914) 997-8111Reproductive Medicine Associates of New York, Long Island400 Garden City Plaza, Suite 107 Garden City, NY 11530 Telephone: (516) 746-3633Facsimile: (516) 746-3622Reproductive Medicine Associates International Mexico, S.C.Prolongacion Paseo de la Reforma 1232, Oficina 1213Colonia Lomas de BezaresDelegacion Miguel HidalgoMexico, Distrito Federal 11910Telephone: 011-52-55-2167-2515Fax: 011-52-55-2167-6434 [More] [Less]

This is a short video of me administering a Gonal-F subcutaneous injection, from start to finish. Please note that you should consult your doctor before taking any medications and know the dose you\\\'re on, because it will most likely not match my dosage in the video. This is meant to help out anyone to see how easy it is to administer these injections, but you should be sure to read the instructions that come with your medication and speak with your doctor regarding any questions. Leuprolide Acetate (Lupron) is related to a naturally occurring hormone called gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH). Leuprolide Acetate has also been used to treat endometriosis, uterine fibroids, early puberty, and as part of the process to stimulate multiple eggs for assisted reproductive technologies. The strength of Leuprolide Acetate is 1mg/0.2ml. Leuprolide Acetate is administered as a subcutaneous injection using insulin syringes. Insulin syringes are used because the measurement on the syringe is in units (i.e.: 10 units is equivalent to 0.1ml/cc). For the role it plays in assisted reproductive technologies, Leuprolide Acetate is used to reduce the amount of estrogen and testosterone in the body. This decrease in estrogen production will prevent ovulation and stop menstrual periods. [More] [Less]
